Danger Asbestos

Asbestos – a naturally occurring mineral that has been used for about the last 150 years on a large commercial scale.

It is versatile, plentiful and ideal as a fire proofing and insulation material.

It is now very restricted – but was previously used in building projects- domestic appliances & household goods – because of its strength & heat resisting properties.

New legislation came into force on 21/5/2004 which was aimed at those who occupy, manage or have responsibility for non domestic premises which may contain asbestos.

What are the risks? Mask

Asbestos containing materials are safe and will not harm as long as they are intact and have not been damaged or tampered with in any way.

If it has been damaged then asbestos dust fibres may have been produced- it is these fibres that may cause health problems such as cancer if inhaled!

It must therefore be removed and disposed of in a correct manner using a licensed contractor - call Dave at Hampshire Environmental Services Ltd. for a free quote on 02392 604 664.

The Facts 3500 die

It can take 15-60 years after first exposure before the development of these fatal diseases – these deaths arise from many years ago when asbestos was less controlled and was in much wider use than today.

At least 3500 people in Great Britain die each year from Mesothelioma and asbestos related lung cancer as a result of past exposure to asbestos.

Annual numbers of deaths are predicted to go on rising in the next decade.
